Swimwear Care Guide
Our swimwear is crafted from delicate, high-quality fabrics — including metallic fibres, glitter yarns, and stretch blends — that reward a little extra care. Follow these steps after every use to keep your pieces looking their best for seasons to come.
After Every Use
1. Rinse Immediately with Cold Water
After swimming or sunbathing, rinse your swimwear straight away with cold water. This removes chlorine, saltwater, and sun oils before they can break down the fabric fibres. Never use hot or warm water — it weakens elasticity.
2. Apply Mild Soap
Use a mild, white soap or a dedicated swimwear wash. Gently work it through the fabric by hand — do not scrub or wring. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
3. Hand Wash Only — No Machine Washing
All Sandshaped swimwear is hand wash only. Machine washing — even on a delicate cycle — causes stretching, snags, and damage to metallic yarns and lycra fibres. This applies to all styles in our range.
4. Dry in Shade
Lay your swimwear flat or hang it in a shaded, well-ventilated area to dry. Direct sunlight fades colour and degrades stretch fibres over time. Do not tumble dry or use a dryer.
Sunscreen
Apply sunscreen 15–25 minutes before putting on your swimwear. This allows the product to absorb into your skin and significantly reduces the risk of fabric discolouration and fibre damage caused by sunscreen chemicals reacting with metallic and synthetic yarns.
Protecting Against Abrasion
Glitter fabrics and fine knits are susceptible to pilling and snags. To prevent damage:
- Avoid sitting or lying on rough, jagged, or textured surfaces (pool edges, concrete, rocks).
- Put on your swimwear before jewellery, watches, or accessories to avoid snags on closures or metallic yarns.
- Handle with care when removing — do not pull or stretch aggressively.
Metal Accessories & Hardware
Styles with metal clips or hardware (such as our Copernicus Ruffled Strapless Bikini Top) require extra attention. Rinse metal fastenings thoroughly after every use — prolonged exposure to chlorinated or salty water will cause oxidation and corrosion.
Storage
- Store clean and fully dry swimwear — damp fabric stored in a bag or drawer encourages mildew.
- Keep flat or loosely folded; avoid compressing under heavy items.
- Store away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
